Oyster - Plaza Senayan Jakarta - Indonesia

It was a big surprise for us to find this restaurant in Jakarta. And after reading very impressive reviews about Oyster, we felt that we had to go and try it. So, minutes later, we found ourselves in a badly lit restaurant where had to struggle to read the menu. We asked a non-smoking table, yet we ended up between two tables with heavy smokers. We tried to ignore the situation but it got worse. So we had to ask to be moved to another table away from smokers.

The restaurant indeed specialized in oysters, but at that particular day we were there, instead of having selections of oysters we were stuck with one kind from USA. Not bad at all, we must admit. Would have been better with more choices as stated on the menu.

After enjoying fresh oysters we moved on to oysters au gratin. They were tasty and cooked really well. It would have tasted even better had we have the right wine to go with it. But again, we were stuck with only one choice of white wine.

Curious about their variety of desserts we chose Black Russian Chocolate Cake. It was served exactly 3 minutes from the time we ordered it. So, we knew to expect a cake that was out of a package. And we were right. The cake was dry, stogy and tasteless.

In short, we would describe the restaurant as average eatery with poor lighting, poor wine, poor selection of oyster, poor hygiene and poor service.

Ah well…. We cannot always expect the finest things in life.

But to ensure that our readers will not get the same disappointment, here are our little tips:

- Phone in advance to ensure that they have fresh stock of oysters, preferably

   different types of it

- If you are non-smokers, choose your table carefully

- Do not expect large variation of wine

- Have your dessert somewhere else
