The Cafe - Hotel Mulia Senayan Jakarta - Indonesia

The Cafe at Hotel Mulia Senayan Jakarta was unexpectedly disappointing. The face of the cafe itself was quite impressive. Clean, bright, cosy seats, decorated with attractive collection of porcelains and great selections of desserts on show plus chocolate fountain, immediately gave the message that dining there would be quite an experience. But unfortunately the food that we ordered did not meet our expectation.
It was half past nine in the evening, we just fancied a light snack, so we ordered Caesar Salad with Barbequed Chicken and French Onion Soup. It did not take long for them to serve our food. But for such two simple meal, they could have brought them at the same time, instead of about ten minutes gap from one to another. The caesar salad arrived first, it was average. Not much we could tell about it. The surprising part was their so called French Onion Soup. It looked like a bowl of beef stock with chopped up onion and two triangle shaped very lousy toasts with cheese on top. Correct us if we were wrong, but french onion soup that we had in mind was a fresh out of the oven onion soup with cheese gratin covering the bowl. It supposed to be rich and cheesy. Not luke warm broth.
On top of that, when the waitress served the soup, she did not bring a spoon! We did have fork and knife, but that would not work. And slurping out of the bowl can be considered impolite. We were left baffled.
To add our disappointment was the staff were too busy chatting with each other and quite loud too, ignoring their customers, plus.. regardless of the fact that we have told them that we were their in house guests and we also stated our room number, they still could not wait to give us the bill. They did not say anything literarily, but slipping in the bill while we were eating, to us, said it all. Once we have finished our meal, no staff approached us to clear the table, or simply ask how the meal was. We had enough and we gave the dessert a miss.
We would not recommend this cafe to you who are looking for nice and enjoyable meal and good service. Try Il Mare, Table8 or Orient8 at the same premises.
