Trianon Palace Versailles

We have stayed at this hotel several times now. One thing we have noticed, if we book a room on Hilton Honors points reward, we could only expect a room at the outside building (pavilion). Not too bad really, if the weather is good. Just less convenient.
The other inconvenience of our last stay was that we booked a table at Gordon Ramsay restaurant which was confirmed by the receptionist as we checked-in, but minutes later we then informed by the front desk manager that the restaurant was fully booked for private function. And he arrogantly added, we have to book at least two months in advance to dine in that restaurant. We explained how disappointed we were, they should have informed us prior to our arrival as we came purposely to try the Gordon Ramsay restaurant and beside that we had quite a bad experience at their La Veranda restaurant, but no apology offered.
Too tired to explain further, we went straight to our poky little room and freshened up for diner. There was an improvement on the bath and body products though, they provided Salvatore Ferragamo products instead of Crabtree and Evelyn like in other Hilton hotels.
We arrived early, so to secure a table we went to the reception of the La Veranda restaurant, welcomed by the person that we thought was the restaurant manager, very pleasant gentleman, assisted us to choose the table. We mentioned about the fact we were refused at the Gordon Ramsay and his remarks was that he was not aware of private function for that particular evening. Out of curiosity, we crossed check it with the concierge, he said they indeed have private function that evening, but normally is not difficult to book a table at Gordon Ramsay restaurant. They have tables for the next day. Unfortunately, that was the day we had to leave. We were puzzled. How come three persons working for the same hotel have no exact knowledge of what is going on in their hotel??
After few vodka martinis and campari orange after, La Veranda restaurant finally opened. Did not get the table that we booked for (do not ask why), but the table next to it. Never mind, a table is a table, a chair is a chair. So, we started with crab cocktail served with guacamole and egg cocotte with green peas soup and croutons. Crab was tasteless, obviously frozen. Egg cocotte and green peas soup was nice. Overall it was ok. Main course was pad of lamb served with caviar of aubergine and truffle potato. Lamb was tender but watery, not much flavour as the fat around the skin was completely removed. Nowhere near as good as the lamb that we had few days previously at Le Chalet de la Foret. Caviar of aubergine was delightful but unfortunately the truffle potato was undercooked.
Cheese platter was not too bad, though. Cheeses were nice and ripe, went nicely with thin sliced granny smith.
About the dessert, we had cheese cake. Not an old fashion cheese cake we had in mind, but it was light and certainly spared us some space for chocolate souffle.
We have to tell you that the chocolate souffle was not on the menu, but we said to the waitress that any good chef can make souffle, it only takes a bit of time and we did not mind waiting. So about half an hour later, she came with steaming hot chocolate souffle that apparently made by the chef at Gordon Ramsay restaurant. Bingo!!! We finally got a little taste of something out of that restaurant.
Did not meet our expectation though, it was dry and heavy. If we could describe it frankly, it was a combination of chocolate mousse and chocolate fondant in a form of souffle. Not impressed at all.
Ah well... still a different experience. Maybe next time we get to dine properly at Gordon Ramsay restaurant that claimed to be Michelin star restaurant. We will keep you up dated about that.

PS: The hotel is within walking distance to the Versailles Palace, worth visiting!
